Biography

Elizabeth currently teaches Psychology and TOK at the British School Jakarta (BSJ) and has been teaching for over 20 years. She is passionate about supporting students in growing and developing to reach their full potential.

BSJ teaches the International Baccalaureate Programme and Elizabeth is the CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service) Coordinator and CP Service Learning Coordinator. She enjoys enabling students to develop balance in their life, including a focus on being creative and active. A lot of her time is taken with the service element of the role.

She enjoys researching and is keen to understand the impact of service learning on her students and also on the people in the local community who have had the benefit of support from students and staff over the years.

She has written a pilot study for Orenda Learning and was impressed with the impact of their programme on her student engagement in service work. She is currently researching altruism and has enjoyed presenting in national conferences regarding her findings and her continued research.

Elizabeth uses her language skills and cultural understanding of Indonesia to guide students to build meaningful relationships with members of the local community. She knows that building connections is the way to make lasting change which is the focus of her talk today. In her spare time, Elizabeth enjoys trekking with her family and going to the gym.
